I don’t have to say much, because the picture speaks for it self! On Monday we were fortunate enough to find and shoot this amazing Kudu bull. At first sight I knew this bull was beyond huge, he was a monster. After loosing him a few times, we were finally able to out smart him. He measured an incredible 62 inches on the left and 62,5 inches on the right. I feel absolutely honored getting the chance to take this beautiful animal. This is Robert’s second time in Namibia with us, so you deserved it 100% my friend.

There is so much to say, I don’t even know were to start.

It has been very busy the last few weeks, which is a good sign for business and something I should not complain about at all.

Well this year we had the highest rainfall in 118 years. It was incredible to see; no clouds in the morning, a few lose clouds by noon and then a huge storm in the afternoon. This will not impact the hunting too much, but we’re very thankful for the huge impact it will have on our underground water system. Then today we ran into a snow storm, when checking our leopard baits… yes snow! It never snow in Namibia, but anything is possible!

I want to inform all our contacts, friends and clients that there is new regulations coming in connection with trophy dipping for export. It is a special dipping process that all trophies will have to go trough, before being shipped out of the country. It has been announced by the EU a few months ago and we know it will be set in action by the beginning of September this year. As for now it is for the export of trophies to countries in Europe, but because a lot of the exports to the states go trough Europe it will also affect our American clients. I think when implemented, the USA will also make it compulsory. The details on exactly how the process will work and how much it will cost, I can not say for sure right now. I just wanted to let everyone know, because it will happen for sure. I will make sure to share details once we get it.

Some good news; We could not have asked for a better start to our hunting season. We have taken some really nice trophies up to now and I can not wait to see what‘s still to come.

Here is a few from the past few weeks.

Take care everyone and I hope to share great news real soon!

Rain…. Good hunting…. Great trophies…. Lots of fun…. and some more rain!

That is the words best describing the first hunt for 2011.

I know the ‘great trophies’ part got the most attention, so here is a few pictures of the trophies we took with two couples from Canada.

Only one week left in the states before we travel back home. We feel so incredibly fortunate to have gotten so much business, while being over here. Thank you so much for everyone of you that came to the shows to say hello. We enjoyed it so much seeing all of you.

There might still be a few of you that did not get the news on Hoekus SR. He gave us quite a scare the last few days. He started experiencing pressure on his chest, which resulted in 5 heart attacks and a three day stay in the University of Utah Hospital. With the help of good doctors he is still with us today, feeling a lot better.

We have had more than double our yearly rainfall and it is far from over. So only 7 more days, then I can show off the incredibly wet Namibia to all of you.

Regards, Hoekus JR

I hope and trust that everyone had a very pleasant Christmas. Pretty soon we will be in a new year, filled with new surprises and challenges. It seems like 2011 will be a very busy and full season. After all that is what you strive for in a business. If I reflect back on 2010. I think; BIG trophies, great friendships and everlasting memories. Thank you so much for everyone that played a part in a successful hunting season.

Here is the updated show schedule and also the booth numbers.

Hope to see all of you at the shows.

I have to share some great news! Late last Wednesday we shot this marvelous Kudu bull. He was spotted a few times in the last two months crossing the main road about 10 miles south of Uhlenhorst. We found him with our first attempt. It took me only one second to look at the kudu, before I gave the shoot command. Right of the back I knew it was not only big, but that it was beyond all expectations.

With 62 inches on the right and 60 inches on the left, this will probably be the biggest kudu of my life!

Dennis Slater congratulations with this beautiful animal.

We had a very successful and enjoyable trip to Etosha last week. Etosha is the biggest National Park situated in the North of Namibia. It is simply an oasis filled with millions of animals.

We saw; 1000’s of Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and Impala

100’s of Elephant, Kudu, Dik-dik, Giraffe and Red Hartebeest

5 groups of lions of which two were over kills

                  2 Cheetahs over a kill

                  4 Black Rhino’s

                  1 Spotted Hyhaena

Here is just a few of my pictures.

What a great week of hunting!

We had Larz and Bob here from Dallas; hunting for Kudu, Oryx, Springbuck, Blesbuck, Warthog, and Red Hartebeest. They definitely brought the right ‘stuff’ with them, because there was no shortage of good old luck! We shot two beautiful Kudu bulls on the first day we looked for kudu, but that was nothing compared to the two wonderful Oryx bulls we shot on Wednesday!  Normally we shoot two or three 40 inch Oryx bulls a year, but never would I have expected to shoot two in one day. I truly think I was happier than the two of them put together.

I have not noticed how long it’s been since I made the last update.

The soccer world cup had a big influence on the hunting market this last couple of months, but it doesn’t mean we weren’t busy. We actually had some much needed time to finish all that long overdue work.

I was busy working our sheep yesterday when I ran into five mature kudu bulls. Three of them was surely over 50 inches and the other two was close. I just sat there 80 yards away looking at them walking off into the bush. Thinking where will you be this time next week when we have hunters. It is times like this that I whish, I could learn to take my camera everywhere I go.

As far as hunting, we still have a few more groups coming over before the end of the season, but its looking very good for next year. Our Pricelist for 2010 will be replaced by the 2011 pricelist at the end of the month. This is the last chance for anyone interested to lock in this years prices. We haven’t worked on the new pricelist yet, but I think there will only be a few small changes.

We are happy to introduce you all to Utah!
No it’s not a state, it is the new addition to the family. To be more exact, it is our baby Giraffe that was born yesterday. We were driving around this morning looking for a Blessbok, when one of the hunters asked me if I knew about the little giraffe out there. I replied – little giraffe? but we only have two giraffes I said! To my surprise, there it was running around just like any other young new-born animal. It was quite a sight, so we sat there taking pictures of the little creature for a few minutes. We gave the hunters that spotted him/her first. The opportunity to name it, so now our baby giraffe will be known as Utah.

What can I say. This is just an incredible Warthog. We shot it last week up north from our place. It is not only the biggest one we have ever shot, it might even make the Namibian Top 10. Which means it is just simply outstanding!

It is 15 ¼ inches long, with 4 ½ inch basses.
